Vol. 255 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wheat Production.

89.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the amount of land under wheat in the country this year; and what the wheat levy will be for the coming season.

On the basis of sales of seed it is estimated that about 220,000 acres have been sown to wheat this year. As the wheat levy will depend on the yield of millable wheat and on the cost of disposal of any surplus, it is no possible at this stage to indicate the amount of such levy.

Will the Minister ensure that, if there is a repayment to be made to farmers, there will not be so long a delay as there was in previous years when farmers had to wait four and five months?

I will make it my business to see there will be no undue delay.

Who was Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries in the years when the long delay took place?

That is another question.
