Mr. M. Smith

asked the Minister for Local Government whether the recently established Irish Water Safety Association has yet drawn up a programme of instruction in swimming and lifesaving for 1971; and, if so, if he will give details.

The Irish Water Safety Association has drawn up a programme of instruction in swimming and lifesaving for 1971 at some 190 locations and covering every county. The voluntary instructors of the association teach life-saving, water safety, resuscitation and swimming to children and adults and give demonstrations.

I would like publicly to compliment the association and their instructors on the progress made in organising the programme.

The details of the programme are in the form of a tabular statement which I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to have circulated with the Official Report.
