Vol. 258 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Offaly School.

30.

asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in providing a prefabricated addition for the boy's national school at Rahan, Tullamore, Offaly, in view of the fact that the Island national school closed in October, 1971 on the undertaking that the additions would be provided as a result of amalgamation with the parish schools in Rahan; if he will state when this addition will be provided; and if he will deal with the matter as one of extreme urgency.

St. Carthage's hall at Rahan is being used as temporary school accommodation following the amalgamation of the Island School with the schools at Rahan. That hall has been reported upon as suitable for school purposes.

My Department's understanding of the matter was that the hall would be available as long as it might be required as temporary accommodation. However, I am having inquiries made as to the need for a temporary classroom.

Is the Minister aware that the children who were transferred from the Island school are being accommodated in the local parochial hall at Rahan which hall happens to be in very poor condition? The provision of a prefabricated extension to the school at Rahan is a very urgent matter.

I am having inquiries carried out in the matter.
