Vol. 259 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment Figures.

6.

asked the Taoiseach the number of persons at work in this country at the latest available date and the number unemployed.

Estimates of the total number of persons at work in the State are made annually. The most recent estimate relating to mid-April, 1971, is 1,071,000.

The most up-to-date indicator of the trend in the level of unemployment is given by the number of persons on the live register. On 18th February, 1972, the live register total was 78,338.
