42.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will request the Land Commission to inspect the Sweeney estate, Carrownthomush, Dunmore, County Galway with a view to acquisition and division.

43.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will request the Land Commission to inspect the McGuinness estate, Carrownthomush, Dunmore, County Galway with a view to acquisition and division.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 42 and 43 together.

The Land Commission have inspected the 11 acre Sweeney holding and were endeavouring to purchase it on a voluntary basis when the negotiations were interrupted by the illness of the owner.

Some years ago the Land Commission also inspected the 26 acre McGuinness holding but decided not to proceed further in the matter at the time.

Both cases are being kept under review.

44.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission have any plans for the acquisition of the Conor and Killilea estates at Boughill, Ballinamore Bridge, Ballinasloe, County Galway.

Certain dealings affecting the 30 acre Killilea property are pending between the Land Commission and the owner but, for the present, these must be treated as confidential.

There are no proceedings for the acquisition of the Connor holding but inquiries are being made.

What is the area of the O'Connor holding? The other figures were so interesting I should like to know the area of the O'Connor holding.

I take the Deputy's point. It is a huge place; it is 30 acres.

A little bit better —a ranch.
