Vol. 260 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - RTE Revenues.

43.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the amount received by RTE in (a) licence fees and (b) advertising revenue in the periods 31st March 1970 to 31st March 1971 and 31st March 1971 to 31st March 1972.

The amounts of the grant-in-aid paid by my Department to RTE in respect of the licence fee collection are:

during year ended 31st March, 1971—£2,535,000;

during year ended 31st March, 1972—£3,110,000.

Advertising revenue amounted to £3,383,107 for the year ended 31st March, 1971, and I understand that advertising revenue for the year ended 31st March, 1972, is estimated at £3,640,000.

On a point of order, is it in order for the Government to show such contempt for the House that only seven of the 43 questions today were answered by the Minister in question?

Is it true that there is another Cabinet crisis today and that there is a danger of three or four of them going or being gone already? Where are they all gone?

It is not a matter for the Chair.

They are gone to Europe. They are all out campaigning.

I would like to think that they were. I am far from confident of it.

I hope they are not sitting idly by.

They are not sitting in the House.
