Vol. 260 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary Hospital Appointments.

1.

asked the Taoiseach if the Local Appointments Commission will give priority to the appointment of a permanent county surgeon and anaesthetist at Nenagh Hospital, County Tipperary.

The Local Appointments Commission have advertised the vacancy for the post of county surgeon, County Tipperary. The statutory request to recommend a person for appointment as anaesthetist, Nenagh Hospital, has recently been received by the commission and the filling of the post will be dealt with expeditiously.

Could the Tánaiste say what length of time usually elapses between the recommendation being made and an appointment being notified?

This is a matter for the Local Appointments Commission. Sometimes a person recommended for appointment is given a certain period in which to decide whether to take up the appointment. That can cause a certain delay. At other times the person recommended accepts the appointment immediately.

Is there any information as to what the average delay would be because it seems a lot of annoyance is caused by a very long delay in most cases?

That is a separate question.
