Vol. 260 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Services.

137.

andMr. Nolan asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a public telephone kiosk will be provided in Kiltealy village, County Wexford; and the reason for the delay in providing it.

Considerable difficulties were experienced in obtaining a site acceptable to all concerned. These difficulties have now been resolved and it is expected that the kiosk will be erected before the end of June.

138.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of telephone kiosks to be erected in County Cork during 1972-73; and the location of each kiosk.

The answer is at least 15 at the following places: Ballincollig; Ballindangan, Ballyhooley, Caheragh, Cecilstown; Glandore; Grenagh; Little Island; Lyre (Clonakilty); Mount Pleasant; New Twopot-house; Old Head; St. Annes Hill; Tarelton and Union Hall.

139.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the lack of telephone facilities in the industrial section of the RDS during the Spring Show.

The telephone facilities provided comprised a central three-position switchboard suite with 50 exchange lines and 300 extensions for exhibitors, a separate installation with five exchange lines for a press bureau and 30 public coinbox lines.

Unfortunately, the switchboards were not adequate to cater, without delays, for the extremely heavy volume of traffic at busy periods to and from exhibitors particularly on the opening day. Fifty extra direct exchange lines were provided for individual exhibitors. These reduced considerably the demands on the switchboards.

I regret the difficulties experienced by users concerned. In future arrangements particular care will be directed to avoiding a recurrence.
