Vol. 261 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Roscommon Estates.

44.

asked the Minister for Lands when an estate (details supplied) in County Roscommon was acquired; the development to date; and when it will be divided.

45.

asked the Minister for Lands when an estate (details supplied) in Curramore, County Roscommon, was acquired; the development to date; and when it will be divided.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 44 and 45 together.

Possession of the 35 acre Kenny estate passed to the Land Commission in 1962. The preparation of resale plans was deferred at the time in the hope that it would be possible to secure other lands in the locality, thus enabling a more balanced scheme of land settlement to be implemented.

Possession of the 22 acre Dillon estate, in the same townland, passed to the Land Commission only last month and I understand that the aim now is to include both holdings in a composite scheme in next year's allocation programme.

Can the Minister say since when did 35 acres become an estate and since when did 22 acres become an estate?

That is a separate question.

During the referendum.

I did not hear the Minister's answer. Even though I was born in West Cork, never in my lifetime were 22 acres or 35 acres regarded as an estate in West Cork, never mind in County Meath.

I think the Deputy has made his point.

If we are going into the EEC let us go in with our heads up.

We had to drag the Deputy in.

Perhaps some people in Mayo would be glad to have an estate that size.
