Vol. 261 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Bus Service.

51.

asked the Minister for Education if he will consider changing the pick-up point for the children who travel on the school bus to the schools in Dunmore, County Galway, from the Fish Pond to Gortnaleam old national school as the present pick-up point is unsuitable because there is no shelter there for the children.

I am advised by CIE that Fish Pond Cross was selected as the most suitable central pick-up point for pupils from the Woodfield and Kiltivna areas attending the schools in Dunmore. It would not be possible to extend the service to Gortnaleam old national school because there is inadequate turning space for a large bus at that point. Neither is it possible to operate a round trip to Dunmore via Peak Hill as this hill is frequently frostbound in winter and is considered unsuitable for bus operation. The present pick-up point at Fish Pond Cross is reasonably convenient and is no less unsuitable than numerous other similar points throughout the country.

The remaining questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.
