asked the Minister for Health the number of children in the Eastern Health Board area who are (a) boarded out, (b) adopted and in respect of whom allowances are paid, (c) maintained in institutions and (d) placed in employment, as of the latest available date.

The information requested is in the form of a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Cheann Comhairle, I shall have circulated with the Official Report.

Following is the table:

Number of children boarded out

193

Number of children adopted in respect of whom allowances are paid

31

Number of children maintained in institutions

369

Number of children placed in employment

36

The figures relate to 31st March, 1972, and those given for children in employment relate to those children for whom the health board have a responsibility under section 3 of the Children Amendment Act, 1957.

These are children under 18 years of age employed in the health board area for whom employment was found by persons who were not relatives and the circumstances of whose employment requires that they shall reside elsewhere than in their normal place of residence prior to the commencement of the employment.
