Vol. 266 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Power Station.

139.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if Bellacorrick power station, County Mayo, is working to full capacity.

I am informed by the ESB that one boiler unit at Bellacorrick power station, half of the station's capacity, is at present undergoing a routine annual overhaul and will be out of commission until the end of June. It is planned to take the other boiler unit out of commission in the middle of July for routine overhaul which will take about four weeks to complete.

I understand from the board that the scheduled quantities of turf are being accepted and that employment at the station will not be affected.

Perhaps the explanation the Minister has given has caused the unrest to be felt among workers in that power station. I ask the Minister to state that he is certain that there will be no unemployment in the area and that the present team employed there will be kept going.

I have said that and that employment at the station will not be affected. That is at the end of my reply.
