Vol. 267 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cobh Ambulance.

53.

asked the Minister for Health when an ambulance will be assigned to Cobh, County Cork.

The operation of an ambulance service and the location of vehicles are primarily matters for the health boards.

The position is that the Southern Health Board, whose area covers Cobh, have considered rationalising the ambulance service for their area to ensure adequate cover and response in respect of all calls emanating from any point in their area. Investigations carried out on behalf of my Department by the operations research unit of the Department of Finance have fully endorsed the Southern Health Board's proposals regarding the location of vehicles. The proposals do not envisage locating a vehicle at Cobh but the Deputy can be assured that all areas, including Cobh, will, under the new arrangement, be provided with an ambulance service of quality.
