Vol. 268 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - FCA Uniforms.

10.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will consider making an alteration in the new uniform issued to the FCA so that members may wear the Army shirt and tie.

11.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will issue combat uniforms to members of the FCA who are doing Border or guard duty.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 10 and 11 together. It is not proposed at present to change the design of the FCA uniform or to issue combat uniforms to members of the FCA engaged in security duties. These matters are kept under constant review.

Is the Minister aware that there is a good deal of disquiet in the FCA? They would like to have the Army shirt and tie and also the combat uniform for Border and guard duty? At times they are on dangerous work and feel they need a second uniform for this.

The Deputy will have noticed I said that matters are kept under constant review and he will realise that there are practical difficulties in this regard. He may take it that I have this matter under constant review and will keep it under review.
