Vol. 269 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Special Allowances Recipients.

7.

asked the Minister for Defence the number of recipients of service pensions and the number of such recipients who also receive special allowances; and the number of recipients of special allowances at 30th September, 1973.

(i) The number of persons in receipt of pensions under the Military Service Pensions Acts, 1924 and 1934, on 30th September, 1973, was 6,590.

(ii) The number of such persons who were also in receipt of special allowances under the Army Pensions Acts on 30th September, 1973, was approximately 1,451.

In order to determine the precise number of military service pensioners who are in receipt of special allowances, it would be necessary to examine 10,663 files of special allowance holders. A search has been made of the account cards of all military service pensioners and the number who were recorded as being in receipt of special allowances was 1,451. This number is considered to be reasonably accurate.

(iii) The number of persons in receipt of Special allowances under the Army Pensions Acts on 30th September, 1973, inclusive of the number at (ii) was 10,663.
