Vol. 269 No. 9

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - ESB Poles.

5.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the average number of ESB poles to the mile on main roads in Ireland.

I am informed by the ESB that they have no poles in city centres as the networks are completely underground. On other streets in built-up areas there are low voltage network poles at intervals of approximately 40 yards. On main roads outside of built-up areas there are on average about one low voltage pole per mile. In new suburban housing estates the networks are completely underground.

Since Deputy Lemass is not present can we take it that he is now walking that mile and counting the poles?

The Deputy may take that.
