Vol. 270 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Environmental Preoccupations.

29.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will increase research on the effects which new environmental preoccupations may have on the relations between the more industrialised areas of the country and the less developed areas, with the aim of reducing the gap in the standard of life between them.

The Government are committed to the reduction of the gap in living standards between the industrialised and the less developed areas. It is my policy to pursue this aim through balanced regional industrial development. I am satisfied that everything possible is being done in the field of environmental research and otherwise, to ensure that in the location of industrial projects no diminution in the quality of life will arise as a result of industrial development, and that industrial development will proceed as rapidly as possible.
