Vol. 271 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of Petrol.

179.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that certain petrol stations have notices erected indicating that only minimum amounts at £1.50 or £2.00 will be sold to individual customers; if he considers this a fair practice; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I consider that the practice referred to has helped to stop panic buying of petrol and in the prevailing circumstances I can see no reason for objecting to it. I am told that the practice is now becoming rarer in the improved supply situation.

Is the Minister aware that since Deputy Timmons put down this question certain multi-national companies have written to their outlets instructing them to discontinue this practice? It is interesting——

It may be interesting but it is a separate question.

There could be Government influence in this. This has happened since Deputy Timmons put down his question and he asked me to pursue this matter.

It will be necessary to put down a separate question on the matter.
