Vol. 271 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price Freeze.

188.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he considers that the time has yet arrived to introduce a price freeze.

The introduction of a general freeze on prices is not at present contemplated.

Is the Minister aware that commodities, particularly food commodities, are increasing daily and would he not take a serious view in regard to this matter?

Not merely every Deputy but every person in the country has to take a serious view of the effects of world inflation on commodity prices, but it is not the view of the Minister for Industry and Commerce that the introduction of a general freeze on prices in present circumstances would have beneficial results for reasons which have already been made clear.

Just one supplementary.

I am moving on to Question No. 189.

God Almighty, sure there are no supplementaries being asked here at all.
