Vol. 271 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Plastic Drainage Pipes.

42.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is aware that only one firm in the State (name supplied) is manufacturing 70 m.m. (3") plastic drainage pipes; that the cost of providing sockets has become exorbitant but that a system has been devised whereby pipes can be fitted into one another through a slotted end; and if his Department will sanction this system so that it will qualify for payment of grants under the land project scheme.

I am aware that the firm in question is the only one in the State currently manufacturing 70 m.m. plastic drainage pipes. I am advised that the change in the method of jointing these pipes introduced recently by this firm is not satisfactory. This decision has been conveyed to the firm. However the question of a suitable jointing system is at present being pursued with them.
