Vol. 271 No. 9

Written Answer. - Potato Crop.

69.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries how the CAP functions in EEC countries in respect of the potato crop.

The EEC has not so far made provision for a common organisation of the market in ware potatoes.

The marketing of seed potatoes in the EEC is controlled only to the extent of the provisions of directive No. 66/403/EEC. This directive is being applied in this country on a gradual basis and will be in full operation here by 1st July, 1976. It provides that seed potatoes marketed in the EEC must be officially certified and must comply with prescribed requirements as to variety, quality, labelling, etc.

In view of the unsatisfactory reply to Question No. 41, I should like to raise the matter on the Adjournment.

With your permission, I wish to raise on the Adjournment the subject matter of Question No. 79 on last Thursday's Order Paper, as I previously intimated.

The Chair will communicate with the Deputies.

Because of certain social issues arising out of Question No. 32, I also ask for permission to raise the matter on the Adjournment.

I will communicate with the Deputy.
