Vol. 271 No. 11

Suspension of Member.

The motion is: "That Deputy Molloy be suspended from the service of the House."

I move: "That Deputy Molloy be suspended from the service of the House."

For using the words "Pontius Pilate".

(Interruptions.)
Question put and declared carried.

I deem the motion to have been carried. The Deputy will leave the House.

Will the Chair explain to me the reason for this motion having been moved?

The Deputy refused to obey the Chair. I had no option but to name him. He knows that.

And the request from the Chair to me was what?

I am not prepared to argue with the Deputy.

To withdraw the words "Pontius Pilate".

The Deputy will leave the House. The motion has been carried.

There will have to be a vote on my removal.

And it has not been proposed.

Deputies

Put the question.

(Interruptions.)

The Captain's services are required.

There has not been a vote on it.

I put the question.

I said that we are not agreeing to it.

Deputies

We disagree with it.

Is it not clear that the Government do not want to vote because they have not got sufficient Deputies in the House.

If we are a Parliament we should respect the Chair whether it is right or wrong.

We should have the right to vote, Sir, on this matter.

I put the question. A division was not challenged.

Deputies

Votáil.

If you want democracy to work in this House you will have to be a bit better than that, a Cheann Comhairle. Your conspiracy with the Government is quite clear to be seen. It is a disgrace.

Deputy Molloy withdrew.

I am leaving in protest.
