Vol. 271 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers (Resumed). - Bloodstock Industry.

35.

asked the Minister for Finance whether, in view of the serious uncertainty in the bloodstock industry caused by the Government announcement on wealth tax, he will make a statement at this stage to the effect that this tax, if introduced, will not be applied to the bloodstock industry.

I referred to this matter in my budget statement yesterday.

Can the Minister say whether the wealth tax will apply to the people mentioned in the question.

We shall be discussing this matter with the people involved in the industry.

The Minister has no views at the moment?

The Minister has plenty of views and he has invited other people to come and express theirs. We believe in consultation and these consultations will take place.

Is the Minister awaiting a flood of representations so that he will have to withdraw the wealth tax?

The Minister, in the foreword to the White Paper, which no doubt the Deputy has not yet read, invited representations. We believe in Government by consultation.

May I avail of this opportunity to make my representations as a Member for Kildare that every consideration will be given to the bloodstock industry?

The Deputy's remarks are noted.
