Vol. 271 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers (Resumed). - Mayo Garda Station.

37.

asked the Minister for Finance when it is intended to erect a new Garda station in Kiltimagh, County Mayo.

The existing Garda station at Kiltimagh which is held on lease is reasonably satisfactory for its purpose. The Western Health Board are however anxious to secure the building for welfare needs and with a view to facilitating them the Commissioners of Public Works have conducted an exhaustive search for a site for a new station. A site which prima facie would be suitable has now been located and subject to clearance of certain details negotiations for its purchase will be undertaken. It is yet too early to say when the new station will be built.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that at a meeting of the Mayo Committee of the Western Health Board it was stated that the lease from the Department of Health to the Department of Justice would expire in 1976 and in view of that would we have the new station at Kiltimagh erected as a matter of urgency?

Mr. Kenny

Yes. I shall give careful consideration to the expeditious erection of the station.
