Vol. 272 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Phoenix Park GAA Dressing Rooms.

83.

asked the Minister for Education if he will make funds available to the GAA in order to improve the dressingrooms provided by them in the Phoenix Park, Dublin.

My Department do not operate a scheme for the provision or improvement of sports dressingrooms. The initiation of such a scheme could involve commitments to all sorts of sports clubs all over Ireland, and a substantial charge on public funds.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that at present when ladies' camogie teams are playing in the Phoenix Park the men participating in sports cannot gain access to the toilets unless they pass through the ladies' dressingrooms?

That is a separate question.

I am not so aware. As I have indicated, my Department do not operate a scheme in relation to dressingrooms and I would not become officially cognisant of the circumstances referred to by the Deputy. I will convey this matter to Dublin Corporation and they may be able to do something but needless to say I cannot.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary convey my remarks to his colleague, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance, because unfortunately, due to crowding in the diningroom, I was unable to come in for the question on that. I understand it is his responsibility.

I will be happy to do so.
