Vol. 272 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - North-West Region Industrialisation.

44.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state in respect of the 50 inquiries from foreign sources which were sent by the IDA to the north-west regional office in Sligo up to the 31st March, 1974, the number which (a) were successfully concluded (b) are at present being examined and (c) have been dropped.

I have been informed by the Industrial Development Authority that 50 inquiries comprised 33 first visits and 17 repeat visits by overseas industrial promoters to the North-West Region in the year to 31st December, 1973. The itineraries generally involved visits to other regions also.

Of the 33 inquiries involving first visits and some repeat visits, three resulted in projects approved for the North-West Region and seven ultimately resulted in projects approved for other regions; six are currently being examined and 17 have been dropped.

In regard to the other repeat visits one was in respect of a project still under consideration.
