Vol. 273 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Industries.

29.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the new industries it is proposed to establish at (a) Bandon, (b) Clonakilty, (c) Dunmanway, (d) Skibbereen, and (e) Bantry, County Cork; and their employment content.

As the Deputy will appreciate, for reasons of confidentiality it is not possible to give details of all the industries expected to establish in these towns.

I have been informed that current industrial progress in respect of each of the towns is as follows:—

Bandon: A plastics factory, as recently announced, will employ 30. Two expansions to employ 78 are at an advanced stage of negotiation and the Industrial Development Authority are seeking a suitable site for further industrial development.

Clonakilty: The IDA have recently approved a project to employ 43 and are also seeking another suitable site.

Dunmanway: Two new firms as already announced, employ a total of 73.

Skibbereen: The IDA have acquired a site of 11½ acres and, subject to planning permission being granted, propose to build a 7,000 sq. ft. advance factory there. Two industralists considering locating in Skibbereen, have already had preliminary discussions with the authority.

Bantry: A new firm with an employment potential of 40, started production at the end of 1973. An expansion of an existing firm has recently been announced and this expansion will provide 34 extra jobs.
