Vol. 273 No. 5

Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - EEC Mergers.

59.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of reports to the effect that the Common Market Commission stated on 27th May, 1974, that it intends to proceed with plans for advance control over mergers in the EEC; and, if so, how this country will be affected by these measures.

I am aware of European Economic Community proposals for a regulation to control concentrations or mergers of undertakings above a certain size. These proposals have not been finalised. It is not expected that the proposed regulation will give rise to any serious problem for this country. If and when it is adopted it will be directly binding in all member States.
