Vol. 273 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Farm Modernisation Scheme.

10.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if in respect of Directive 159 he will state (a) whether grants will be made available for poultry houses and (b) whether a 30-acre farm with 16 to 20 cows could be classified as a developing farm if poultry production was undertaken as well.

(Cavan): Grants are not payable under the farm modernisation scheme in respect of investment in poultry production.

Any farm which can yield the target income required under the scheme, either from poultry production combined with dairying or from any other combination of enterprises, could come into the development category.

11.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries whether many farmers who have completed work under the Small Farm Incentive Bonus Scheme will qualify as development farmers under Directive 159.

(Cavan): I expect that many of the farmers who complete their development programmes under the incentive bonus scheme could become development farmers if they decide to participate in the farm modernisation scheme.
