asked the Minister for Health whether grants are now being paid towards the cost of the training and rehabilitation of physically handicapped persons.

1.
I am not clear as to the particular type of grants the Deputy has in mind.
Under the Disabled Persons (Rehabilitation) Regulations 1973 a health board may pay training fees of £14 per month in respect of disabled persons recommended for training at centres approved for the purpose by me. Such fees continue to be paid to existing training centres.
I have, however, withheld approval to the payment of fees and capital grants to new training projects pending the final report of a working party which I have established to advise me on the future development of this service. I expect to have that report in the autumn.
