Vol. 276 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kilkenny Castle Restoration.

138.

asked the Minister for Finance the amounts of money spent on restoration work in Kilkenny Castle in each of the past three years; and the present state of the project.

Mr. Kenny

The contract for the restoration of the east wing of Kilkenny Castle was not placed until October, 1973, and no expenditure was incurred by my Office before that time. Since then £16,666 was spent in the financial year ended 31st March, 1974, and it is estimated that approximately £70,000 will be spent in the period 1st April to 31st December, 1974.

Satisfactory progress is being made on that contract and it is hoped to complete the work on the east wing in about 12 months' time.

Is that the wing which contains the picture gallery?

Mr. Kenny

Yes.
