Vol. 276 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Nature Preserves.

134.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will set aside a strictly natural area within each national park as a nature preserve and regeneration area which will contain examples of the flora and fauna unique to that park.

Mr. Kenny

In preparing a long-range management programme for each national park it will be the policy, in accordance with internationally established guidelines, to segregate certain areas for the scientific study and protection of flora and fauna.

I take it that in those areas if a tree falls down it will be left where it has fallen?

Mr. Kenny

Yes, in certain areas. There are about four different categories but on the question in which the Deputy is interested it will be just left in its natural state.
