Vol. 278 No. 6

Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - Vitreous China.

75.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received a letter (copy supplied) from a firm in Arklow, County Wicklow, concerning the manufacture and supply of vitreous china in Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have received this letter, and have informed the correspondent that arrangements may be made for the discussion which he has requested with officers of my Department. The Deputy will be aware, however, that our obligations as a member State of the European Communities preclude any direction by me that products of Irish manufacture should be used in public or grant-aided housing. However, local authorities have been made fully aware of the desirability of using materials of Irish manufacture from the viewpoint of maintaining employment.
