Vol. 278 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Health Boards' Employees.

2.

asked the Minister for Health the number of persons employed by each of the health boards.

The number of staff employed by each health board is as follows:

Eastern

5,456

Midland

2,200

Mid-Western

3,025

North-Eastern

2,000

North-Western

2,350

South-Eastern

4,200

Southern

5,272

Western

4,670

Those figures mean there are about 30,000 permanent employees in the health boards.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary tell me if all of these posts are permanent and, if not, when permanency will be created for them? Would he also indicate if there will be any increase in the number to be employed in the health boards in future?

I was not asked for that information, but I shall get it for the Deputy.

Is that clerical staff or is it all staff, including medical?

Yes, it is all staff.

How many were employed permanently under the old health authorities?

That seems to be a separate question.

I have not got that information.
