asked the Minister for Education if he will consider the time devoted by teachers to the teaching of games and athletics in post-primary schools as class-contact hours.

Mr. R. Burke
The general position in relation to the teaching of games and athletics in secondary schools is that the time devoted to such teaching may be regarded as class-contact hours for the purpose of the minimum numbers of hours required in relation to eligibility for salary where the instruction is provided by a qualified teacher of physical education. Games and athletics may, of course, be included in the time-table of any school.
