asked the Minister for the Public Service the number employed in the public service per 100,000 of the population.
Mr. Kenny
The public service consists of teachers, gardaí, Defence Forces, the civil service, nurses, doctors and health board employees whose pay is met from the Exchequer in whole or in part. On the basis of the figures for 1974, which are the most up to date available, the number employed in the public service per 100,000 of the population is 4,200 approximately.
Are the employees of State-sponsored bodies such as the ESB and CIE included?
Mr. Kenny
I should not think so from the information available here.
