Vol. 283 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wexford Estate.

10.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission have acquired the Earl estate, Monamolin, County Wexford; and the acreage which is involved.

(Cavan): It is expected that proceedings for the compulsory acquisition of 69 acres of the property referred to, now in their final stages, will have been completed by the end of the year.

How long are the negotiations going on about this?

(Cavan): The proceedings started by the service of the section 14 notice in December, 1972.

Why has it taken three years to acquire this holding?

(Cavan): The provisional list was published, following the service of the notice, in June, 1973. An objection to the Land Commission acquisition was lodged in August, 1973 and that came up for hearing on the 30th of January, 1974. The objection was allowed in respect of the land of Court Ballyedmond, comprising 58 acres, and disallowed in respect of the others. The Deputy will appreciate that due to the fact that the proceedings were contested it took some time.

When do the Land Commission hope to have possession of this land?

(Cavan): As I stated in reply to the question, it is hoped that possession will be taken before the end of this year. Every step of this case was contested.
