I presume the Deputy means scholarships awarded by vocational education committees and tenable at regional and other technical colleges.
The position in regard to these, as well as other scholarships, is that they are awarded to students entering on third-level courses and that it is not considered equitable that such students should have to compete with students who have already completed a year or more of the course. It is for that reason that applications for en route scholarships are not sanctioned and that provision is not made for them in the scholarship schemes.
