Vol. 286 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Population.

2.

asked the Taoiseach the estimated population increase in County Donegal based on available statistics of births, deaths and net emigration since the last census of population was compiled.

The most recent census was taken in April, 1971. The only information available on population changes since that date relates to births and deaths. In the four years ended March, 1975, the natural increase—births less deaths—in County Donegal was 3,119.

As corresponding figures for net migration are not available at county level, it is not possible to give a figure for the net change in population.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary give any indication when the next census will be taken?

Have the Government decided to abandon the taking of a census?

That is a separate question.

Have the Government decided to abandon the taking of a census?

That is a question of policy for which I am not responsible.
