Vol. 287 No. 10

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order: Nos. 1, 13 and 14 (resumed) at 12 o'clock. Private Members' Business from 7 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. (No. 29, resumed).

Sir, could I ask the Taoiseach if any moves have been made to improve the situation in which staff and Members of this House have had to work under arctic conditions for three weeks now?

Try a ball of malt.

It might be a laughing matter for Deputies opposite, but there are staff members here who have had to work under these conditions. I am not saying I am complaining just for them but for the Members of this House. Many Deputies have the flu. Surely some steps could be taken by the Minister for Labour or the Parliamentary Secretary in charge of the Board of Works, or yourself, a Cheann Comhairle.

I have already made a statement on that matter.

Youthful Deputies should be able to generate their own heat.

(Interruptions.)

I take this matter seriously.

I want to give notice that, with your permission, Deputies Barrett, Daly, Herbert and I propose to raise on the Adjournment the question of the making redundant at Golden Vale Creameries of 450 of their workers on Friday next in Limerick, Clare and Cork.

I will communicate with Deputy O'Malley on that matter.
