Vol. 288 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Weekly National Lottery.

40.

asked the Minister for Justice if he has received an application from Hospitals Trust (1940) Ltd. to promote a weekly national lottery; and, if so, if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have received such an application and, in view of its importance, it is a matter that must be considered by the Government. No decision has yet been taken.

Will representations made by other bodies be taken into consideration? It is a matter of serious public concern and I hope, if possible, it will be aired in the Dáil before any decision is taken.

The Deputy can be assured that representations from any bodies interested in this matter will be sought and will be discussed.

Has the Minister received representations from numerous voluntary organisations who were apprehensive about this possible development?

I have received a request for a deputation, and I hope to make arrangements to receive the deputation very shortly, from the federation that is organised to take in all these voluntary bodies.

Is there more than one of these organisations?

I have only been contacted by one.

I believe there is more than one. I am sure the Minister will have regard to all representations.

I will indeed.

The remaining questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.

While not in any way disagreeing with the Minister's reply to Question No. 35 as I consider they are matters which the House should go into in greater detail perhaps if you consider the matter of enough public interest we might have an opportunity of discussing it on the Adjournment at a later date.

I will communicate with Deputy Flanagan.

With your permission I would like to raise the subject matter of Question No. 17 of the 11th February on the Adjournment.

I will communicate with the Deputy.
