Vol. 293 No. 7

Written Answers. - Meath School Grant.

107.

asked the Minister for Education when the manager of a school in County Meath will be paid a grant in respect of works (details supplied) which have been carried out; and the reason for the delay in making the payment.

The scheme of painting grants was discontinued as from 31st December, 1974, on the introduction of the new scheme of capitation grants towards the operating costs of national schools. Grants under the former scheme would normally be payable only in respect of cases in which the work could be certified as having been satisfactorily completed before 31st December, 1974.

In the case of the school mentioned by the Deputy, an application for a painting grant was received in August, 1975, in respect of work completed in March, 1975.

This application together with some similar ones is under consideration with a view to seeing whether payment can now be authorised as an exceptional matter.

Grants have, of course, been paid in respect of this school under the new scheme with effect as from 1st January, 1975.
