Vol. 293 No. 11

Written Answers. - Clare School.

49.

andMr. Daly asked the Minister for Education when it is proposed to carry out the necessary repairs to Leitrim national school.

The Deputies may be aware that in a statement which I made in the Dáil in October, 1973 I said that grants would not in future be made for extensive reconstruction or improvement of one-teacher or two-teacher national schools.

Leitrim national school is a two-teacher school and an application for a grant towards the cost of its improvement, estimated at £5,000, has been under consideration in my Department.

I regret that I am not in a position to make an exception in this case to the general policy in relation to grants for improvements to small schools.
