Written Answers. - National Monuments.

290.

asked the Minister for Finance the number of national monuments removed to a public museum in accordance with section 13 (1) of the National Monuments Act, 1930; the museums involved; and if the conditions in relation to the monuments being open to the public have been compiled with in all cases.

The National Monument, the Turoe Stone, County Galway was temporarily removed to the National Museum of Ireland in 1967 on the occasion of the Rosc Exhibition. From time to time portions of monuments such as cross slabs and decorated stones have been removed by the commissioners to the National Museum. I am not aware of any other cases and I do not know if any local authority have done so. I am unaware of any instance where the conditions in relation to the monuments being open to inspection by the public have not been complied with.
