Vol. 300 No. 6

Telephone Capital Bill, 1977: Committee and Final Stages.

Sections 1 to 4, inclusive, agreed to.
Title agreed to.
Bill reported without amendment.

I move: "That the Bill do now pass."

Did the Minister make any reference to the installation of telephones for pensioners who are living alone?

I mentioned the fact that this was primarily a matter for the Minister for Social Welfare and that I would convey the Deputy's remarks to him.

I know it is but the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs will have to implement the decision for the installation of the phones. When can we expect the scheme to be in operation?

The scheme will be in operation on 1st April. When the actual connections will be made is another matter.

Has the cost of the scheme been estimated? Is that also a matter for the Minister for Social Welfare?

Question put and agreed to.

This Bill is certified a Money Bill in accordance with Article 22 of the Constitution.
