Vol. 302 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Care of Children.

38.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is satisfied with the present legal requirements and court procedures governing the taking into care of children.

The law in regard to the taking of children into care is not primarily a matter for me. Moreover, since at least two other Ministers, the Minister for Education and the Minister for Health, are concerned with aspects of child care, it was not possible for me to arrange to have the question answered by another Minister Accordingly, I would suggest that the Deputy put down a question to the appropriate Minister on some specific aspect of the law or of court procedure.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary think there might be need for a Departmental Committee to find out the different Ministers involved?

I do not think so. The situation arises from the non-directness of the question itself.
