Vol. 318 No. 3

Written Answers. - Exchequer Returns Breakdown.

385.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will give a breakdown of the category "other borrowings" under "money raised by creation of debt" in the Exchequer returns of 31 December 1979.

The category "other borrowings" shows the accumulation of miscellaneous borrowings within the year. It is the sum of such borrowings and does not take account of repayments within the year. The figure for the Central Bank overdraft facility thus exceeds substantially the amount of the overdraft at any particular time. The maximum was, in fact, £124 million.

On this basis, the total amount borrowed under the heading in 1979 was £562,671,072, made up as follows:

£

Central Bank overdraft facility

425,527,117

European Investment Bank loans

114,525,331

World Bank loans

2,549,279

Ireland 7.65 per cent DM loan 1985/89

19,744,740

Other

324,605

Total

562,671,072

Repayments during the year in respect of the category "other borrowings" amounted to £597,710,434 of which £422,147,753 related to the overdraft and £3,559,500 to loans from the European Investment Bank.
