In 1979, Westmeath County Council were authorised to spend £465,000 on their local authority house construction programme throughout the county, including Mullingar. Expenditure in any year on local authority housing construction in Mullingar is a matter for the council themselves to decide on within their overall allocation. Details of expenditure in the Mullingar area in 1979 are not available in my Department.
In 1980, the council sought £673,400 for existing commitments on their local authority house construction programme at 31 December 1979. On the 14 March last an initial capital allocation of £490,000 was made to the council for this purpose.
