Vol. 320 No. 5

Written Answers. - Telephone Service.

219.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when an automatic telephone exchange will be provided for Cappawhite, County Tipperary, and when this will be operational.

It is expected that Cappawhite telephone exchange will be converted to automatic working in about two years provided that legal formalities for the acquisition of a site for the exchange building can be concluded quickly.

220.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a transfer of telephone service will be effected for a person (details supplied) in Dublin, and if priority will be given in view of the nature of this person's employment.

Arrangements to provide service within the next month are already in train.

221.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason for the delay to date in repairing and restoring a telephone service (details supplied) and if he will make a statement outlining the cause of the breakdown and if such a breakdown is likely to recur.

The interruption of service is due to a cable fault which it has not yet been possible to attend to because of the large volume of other urgent engineering work requiring attention in the area. It is expected service will be restored this week.

It is not possible to be assured that service will not be interrupted in the future as cables can develop faults unexpectedly.
