Vol. 322 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shannon Bus-Building Plant.

6.

asked the Minister for Transport the role CIE envisage for themselves in relation to the new bus-building plant in Shannon, County Clare, which is to start production in June, 1980, and if he will outline the cost of State grants in connection with this project.

7.

asked the Minister for Transport the amount of public money involved in the construction and operation of a bus-building plant by CIE and a Canadian company at Shannon, County Clare.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 6 and 7 together.

The arrangements for the supply of their bus requirements from the factory at Shannon were made by CIE under the powers available to the board under the Transport Acts. Particulars in relation to the bus-building project were furnished by CIE to the Oireachtas Joint Committee on State-sponsored bodies and were reproduced in Appendix 5 to the Joint Committee's report on CIE dated 10 October 1979. With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I am having a copy of Appendix 5 circulated with the Offical Report.

No State grants are being paid in respect of this project.

Following is the appendix:

Appendix 5 to Report on CIE by the Oireachtas Joint Committee on State-sponsored Bodies, Dated 10 October, 1979.
